Abstract

In the second quarter of 2008, the Taiwanese mobile phone market was impacted by the rise in food prices as well as the government's decision to end price freezes on electricity and gasoline, with gasoline prices raised twice. These developments affected the spending power of consumers. Taiwanese mobile phone market sales volume is estimated at 1.65 million units in the second quarter of 2008, reaching a two-year low. Market value reached an estimated NT$9.59 billion (US$305.12 million; US$1=NT$31.43) in the second quarter, while ASP fell to approximately NT$5,806 (US$184.7).
